Free Printable BILL OF SALE Form

A bill of sale is a document or certificate transferring the ownership of personal property (automobile, motorcycle, trailer, boat, truck, rv, etc.) from seller (owner) to buyer or purchaser.

A bill of sale document releases interest in a vehicle. It is a written legal document reporting the date, locality, and the particular sum of money involved in the transaction in which the seller sold to the purchaser a specific item of his/her lawful property. It is a sale receipt for a car, motorcycle, truck, bus, boat, jet ski, trailer, horse, four-wheeler, snow ski, quad bike...

Some states do not require a B.O.S., but creating one will help you keep a record of the transaction along with the information just in case.

It's always a good idea to order a vehicle history report before you purchase a used car, truck or motorcycle. It will prevent you from buying a vehicle that has odometer rollback or flood, fire or frame damage.

You need to notify your local DMV immediately after the sale is made. That makes you not liable in case the vehicle gets into an accident or gets a ticket while the title is still in your name.

The sale of a vehicle without a title is not acceptable in most states. If you have lost the title of your car, bike or truck, you need to get a replacement from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Fill the information for the seller and buyer. Detail the amount of the sale, the name and address of the seller, and the name and address of the buyer. You will need to fill the appropriate information for AMOUNT, the address of the SELLER and BUYER.

Give the details of the vehicle that is being sold. List the make, the model and the VIN number of the vehicle that is being sold.

Make no promises of a warranty."The seller states that the vehicle is being sold as-is with no warranty."

Have a place for date and signatures of the seller and buyer.

Below is a simple BOS template you can use.

The form below lets you fill in the blanks or modify it by adding some important additional information as needed. Just copy and paste to your word processor and print.
